Company History

ZONEM was established as a specialised Screening and Crushing division of the well-established company, Ilanga Steelphalt Group

The Ilanga Steelphalt Group was stared by Jan van der Merwe in 1994. The company has extensive experience in the crushing and screening sector since 1972. This experience included various managerial rolls at Winterton Quarries, Brits Crushers, Lancaster Quarries, Blasting and Excavating at De aar Quarries and Manager at Northern Natal Minerals and Malungisa Mining Investments. 

At the same time as the Ilanga Steelphalt Group started; Jan van der Merwe (MD) established Ilanga Asphalt (Pty) Ltd which specialized in manufacturing and paving of hot mix asphalt. Crossmoor Plant Hire became 50% partners (1998) and the name was changed to Shisalanga Construction - currently owned by Raubex. 

At present ZONEM's crushing and screening ventures focus on serving the local market of Mpumalanga, North West and Gauteng area but also working country wide with Jan van der Merwe as Managing Director of ZONEM (Pty) Ltd. 

ZONEM is in the fortunate position to be a division of the Ilanga Steelphalt Group and therefore able to utilize and optimize the company's resources (human resources as well as equipment).

ZONEM's offices are based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga from where we service the company.
